The other bridge
The Golden Gate gets the attention, but the Bay Bridge is the one San Franciscans actually see every day. California Street is that view at sunrise: the hill drops between the Financial District towers and for a minute the whole canyon goes orange, the bridge sitting at the bottom of it. Pink Hour and Embarcadero were both taken on the waterfront as the light left. In Pink Hour the western span stands in a sky that took its time draining from pink to grey. Embarcadero was shot from inside the palms above the promenade, the bridge going lavender behind the fronds. Treasure Island looks back the other way, a black and white frame with the bridge lights coming on and the skyline going grey.
Choosing a Bay Bridge print
Pink Hour is the quiet one, a soft horizontal for bedrooms and reading corners, and the only one here also sold as a $10 postcard. California Street is vertical and full of warm light, made for a hallway, the wall beside a window or a tall space above a desk. Embarcadero adds colour to a kitchen or office. Treasure Island is the one for a den or garage wall.
